hellustration for vektorika #10 (hope they'll choose it!)
theme: character design
illustrator cs

since i had to use bi-dimensional characters (my choice) i decided to pay more attention on the other details, like shadows and reflexes. i created such a strange and "wrong" perspective to make the illustration more interesting and dynamic.

if you have some constructive critique don't hesitate!
thank you!

Hmm only issue i've got with this, is the reflections. They look out of perpective

yes, everything is out of perspective, because i found it more interesting and dynamic for the sight... as for the reflections of the monster, well, it's hard to tell which is the correct side since it's a bi-dimensional character. for this reason i choose the most interesting orientation.
thanks for sharing your opinion!

I think that this is nice. Although the reflections at the back and on the side are... showing the frontal image of the croc. Maybe place its back instead?

oh it's hard to say, cause the croc doesn't have a defined orientetion, i mean, it doesn't have its own 3d... actually the reflection on the left side should represent the croc's face frontally, but since it's bi-dimensional (so the face doesn't have a front, but only left and right sides) i choose to orient like this the reflections to make them more interesting... maybe the final result would be the same...

Wow, what a coincidence. I was just reading about the submission on their website and I found this.

I might put together something to submit too. Good luck with your submission.
However my personal opinion about this is grim.

Its just not very unique or interesting. You use the same yellow headed guy you use for alot of things. Theres no use of shading and the lines and shapes that make up your characture are ridgid and the outline of the Croc is way thick. And the flat style of it all. Even though you've tried giving it dimension with the use of a somewhat 3D environment.

Overall it has the feel of someone pretty new to using illustrator. But ofcourse it does show potential to improvement.

thanks! nice explanation!
the yellow headed guy is me as a comics character. as for the shades i know it, but it was my choice, because the characters are made in a "distorted" way (i used for the monster some kind of a "cubist" mood) and for this reason they cannot have a defined 3D. i think the background has a quite good depth, and the shadows have a very good realistic detail.
thanks for your opinion!
